As a follow up to our news story printed 2nd February regarding an attempted break in and to show our support to new local business we decided to hold our March Come Dine evening at The Grill at No. 20 on Retiro St in Oldham on Wednesday 23rd March and then followed by an extra evening on Wednesday 30th March.
The restaurant is owned and run by business partners Anthony D’Allessandro and Karl Young, supported front of house by Anthony’s wife Carolina, sister Yolanda and waitress Brooke Devine. The restaurant has only been opened since January this year and they were all keen to come on board as part of our Come Dine evenings.
Anthony put together an impressive menu for the night, which was well received by our diners and had something to suit every taste. Anthony does the majority of the cooking as well as helping front of house As the first evening quickly booked up we decided to put on an additional evening the following week, which proved to be as popular.
On arrival, friendly, welcoming staff seated us at our tables. A wide range of beverages were available at the bar, which I found to be reasonably priced. The building has been newly decorated in a contemporary style that felt warm and inviting.
Of the dishes that were on offer, the winners of the popularity stakes were the King Prawn starter which was served in white wine, chilli and butter sauce, and the main course was the Pan Fried Sea Bass served on a bed of roasted vegetables. Star of the dessert menu was the Eton Mess which was a generous portion and delicious.
Both evenings were a great success and the atmosphere was friendly and bubbly. Anthony and his staff were attentive to diners and their interaction added to the evening’s enjoyment. The general feedback received from our diners was that the choice and quality of the food was excellent and exceptionally good value for money. We look forward to holding a further evening at The Grill at No. 20 later in the year. For bookings please call the restaurant on 0161 213 9900.
