The Rotary Clubs of Oldham Metro and Saddleworth work together on several projects each year, supporting local community and charitable causes throughout both local areas.
Most of the charity money the Clubs allocate to these local causes has been raised through the annual Wellifest Music Festival and the Saddleworth Show, which the two Clubs jointly manage with the help of local volunteers.
And it is fitting the Clubs donate much of the money to deserving causes locally.
During the later part of last year, Oldham Metro and Saddleworth Rotary Clubs were approached by Hollinworth Academy seeking support for a project to provide two cycles specifically tailored for use by their pupils.
Hollinwood Academy is a special school and provides an educational offer for children and young people with a diagnosis of autism spectrum condition and speech, language and communication needs.
Both Clubs agreed to provide funding for a cycle at a cost of £1,150 per cycle.
The cycles design meets the specific needs of the school pupils and were recently delivered to the Academy.
The Thereplay tracer tricycles will enable the school to delivery cycling to all students.
Representatives of both Oldham Metro and Saddleworth Rotary Clubs met with Hollinwood Academy staff and pupils to see a demonstration of how the cycles would benefit the work at the Academy.
Hollinwood Executive Headteacher, Laura Millard, thanked the Rotary Clubs for their generous donations.
Jack Wild, President of Oldham Metro Rotary, said: ”We are always looking for deserving local good causes to support and members felt this project was one that we could happily fund.”
Saddleworth Rotary President Clint Elliott said: ”I know both Clubs were moved to support Hollinwood and the reward can be seen in the joy the cycles have brought to the young people here today.”
