Greenfield Cricket Club has prioritised player and community safety by having a life-saving defibrillator at its grounds.
This initiative ensures that anyone suffering a sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) has immediate access to vital treatment, significantly increasing survival chances.
Recognising the critical importance of emergency preparedness, club representative Jason Taylor led the effort to secure the defibrillator.
Through partnerships with local organisations and fundraising initiatives, Greenfield CC successfully acquired the device, reinforcing its commitment to the wellbeing of players, supporters, and visitors.
To further support the initiative, defibshop visited the club to provide expert guidance on defibrillator use and maintenance.
Their involvement has helped ensure that the club and local community feel confident in responding to cardiac emergencies.
A defibrillator delivers an electric shock to the heart to restore normal heart rhythm in the event of an SCA.
With every passing minute without defibrillation, survival chances decrease by 10%, making immediate access to the device crucial.
As Greenfield is situated in an isolated area where emergency response times may be longer, Jason recognised the urgent need for a 24/7 accessible defibrillator.
The club has also registered the device on The Circuit, the UK’s national defibrillator network, ensuring emergency services are aware of its location in critical situations.
Following the installation, the club has actively informed the community of the defibrillator’s location and encouraged awareness of its importance.
While defibrillators provide step-by-step voice instructions and do not require prior training to use, Greenfield CC has ensured staff and members are educated on how to respond swiftly and effectively in the event of an emergency.
Greenfield Cricket Club’s initiative is part of a wider movement among grassroots sports organisations prioritising health and safety.
With increasing awareness of cardiac risks in sport, this proactive approach sets a powerful example for other clubs to follow.
“This isn’t just about Greenfield Cricket Club; it’s about the entire community,” said Jason.
“Having a defibrillator on site ensures we are ready to act in an emergency, and we hope other clubs take similar steps to protect their players and supporters.”
