Cabaret event raises vital funds for local homelessness charity

Local musicians and entertainers have joined forces in support of homelessness charity Emmaus Mossley for a special cabaret-style fundraising event.

Emmaus Mossley supports people who have experienced homelessness by providing them with a home, companionship, tailored support and work opportunities.

The charity welcomed 100 guests for an evening cabaret show that included a range of music, entertainment, food and mocktails.

Darren, one of the people supported by Emmaus Mossley and a member of the team who helped to organise the event, said: “I thought it was a really fun, star-studded evening and everything ran as smoothly as it could have done.

“Every single act was amazing, and everyone involved worked hard to set up beforehand and on the night – proving that hard work pays off.

"Massive thanks to everyone who attended and all those who helped to make it a successful evening.”

The ‘Viva Las Emmaus Cabaret’ included live performances by musicians Kyla Brox, Madame Claude, Ian Mellor, Phil Mayers, singer Collette and spoken word poet Lisa Moore.

The event raised more than £2,000, with all proceeds being put towards the refurbishment of Emmaus Mossley’s communal kitchen and dining room.

Hazel Hodkinson, Retail Manager at Emmaus Mossley, said: “Hosting the Viva Las Emmaus Cabaret was a massive undertaking, but everything went smoothly, and our guests were treated to some fantastic performances, food and mocktails.

“I would like to give huge thanks to all the musicians, performers, volunteers, production manager Dave Jones, and both Danny and Sarah for creating a delicious menu of food and drinks.

"This was the first time we’ve held an evening event with a variety performance format but the effort everyone put in was well worth it.”

The charity’s next event will be the Emmaus Spring Fayre on Saturday, March 22, 10am-4pm.

On the day, Emmaus Mossley’s second-hand superstore will be stocked up with seasonal items, fresh displays and sale items, alongside entertainment, tasty home-made food and drinks.
