Charity triumph for big-hearted pub

A generous-spirited pub landlord who set out on a mission to raise cash for life-saving defibrillators in a Saddleworth village has received a huge charity boost.

Alan Warrior, landlord at the White Lion in Delph, held a summit meeting with a top team from local charity, Defibrillators Save Lives, to discuss his incredible fundraising efforts.

Alan, alongside Cath Johnstone, a local resident and former NWAS first responder, wanted guidance on purchasing, maintaining, and ensuring the long-term sustainability of the life-saving devices.

And after the meeting, the group were thrilled to share that they will assist with the procurement and installation of THREE defibrillators and cabinets in Delph.

And they hinted at even providing a fourth.

Alan was originally quoted £1,200 for just one defibrillator, not including a secure, heated cabinet or installation.

However, the defibrillator group's expertise and supplier partnerships means: a high-quality defibrillator for both adults and children; a full rescue pack; an emergency bleed control kit and a heated, locked cabinet.

And the defibrillators were supplied at just £1,120 per unit - a massive £700 saved per installation - allowing the community to keep funds aside for future consumables, including replacement pads.

Said the group's spokesman, Scott Woodhead: ”We’ll also register the defibrillators on The Circuit, the national system used by North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust, ensuring they are accessible in an emergency.

“Plus, with Cath joining our Heart Hero Team, she will oversee regular checks, ensuring everything stays in top condition.

"With her background in physiotherapy and strong ties to the community, she’s the perfect person for the role.”

He added: "This is exactly why we do what we do - to advise, support, and ensure communities get the best value for their fundraising efforts.

"Let’s make those hard-earned donations go even further.”
