Real Enhanced sessions are for children under five who are not in an educational setting
A parent has said that her daughter 'came out of her shell' thanks to free sessions provided through Oldham Family Hubs.
Real Enhanced sessions are for children under five who are not in an educational setting, and parents have spoken of the positive impact they have had on their family life at a 'Cuppa and Chat' drop-in.
In-the-home sessions support with development and help to get children ready to learn.
Mum Natalie Boardman said child and family practitioner Lauren Eaton has helped to bring daughter Holly 'out of her shell'.
“Seeing someone regularly and playing has made a massive difference," said Natalie.
"Lauren has been really supportive.
"She has done extra play with Holly and she has sat and listened.
"We had concerns because Holly had stopped talking, but Lauren helped to bring her out of her shell."
And Lauren said about the triumphs of delivering Real Enhanced: "They feel like you have listened.
"For families you might be the first person they have seen about their concerns.
"Sessions are held in the home, teaching them key skills to support with their child's development.
"With Holly in her last session she sat down in front of me and I was like 'yes!'"
Oldham Parent Carer Forum run the Cuppa and Chat drop-in at Point in Chadderton, which offers peer support, information, and advice for parents and carers of children and young people (0-25) with additional needs and/or disabilities.
The drop-in is held every second Thursday of the month as a place where parents can meet other parents.
The Family Hubs team who deliver Real Enhanced, and families who have accessed their service, were invited to the latest session.
Mum Liza Jackson said she has had a lot of support from Real Enhanced for four-year-old Bryan and his older brother Jayden, five.
And Sanna Ali said about the impact Real Enhanced sessions have made on her son Harris, two: "It's really great and has made a big difference for him."
Cllr Shaid Mushtaq, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said: "Real Enhanced is a fantastic example of the support from our Family Hubs offer for the people of Oldham, helping them on their parenting journeys and giving children the best start in life.
"It's great that these at-home sessions are having such a positive impact in preparing children for learning.
"I would urge families to call into their local Family Hub to find out about the range of support and activities available to them."
