Ninth person arrested after Shaw Road firearms incident

Greater Manchester Police have made a ninth arrest in connection with a firearms discharge on Shaw Road in Oldham on Thursday, January 16, 2025, where an 18-year-old man suffered serious injuries.

Yesterday (Monday), officers from GMP's Force Critical Wanted Unit, who are supporting the Major Incident Team, arrested a 22-year-old man on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder and assisting an offender.

Out of the other eight arrests made, one has been charged and the other seven bailed as police continue to investigate.

The victim remains in a stable condition.

Detective Chief Inspector Charlotte Whalley, Senior Investigating Officer, said: “We are continuing to make progress in this complex and large investigation, and I hope that hearing of a further arrest reassures the public about the seriousness of which we are treating it.

“Local officers have continued to give reassurance to the community and maintain a visible presence as enquiries have continued.

“Our appeal for any information about this incident remains live, and we encourage anyone who knows anything, and hasn’t previously been in touch with us, to come forward.”
