It was all smiles at Lydgate's double headed lights switch-on
More than 150 excited villagers gathered for a magical double headed lights switch-on to launch Lydgate’s Christmas.
Some met at a special tree in safety at the White Hart car park. and others at the much-loved Christmas tree at the village crossroads which lit simultaneously.
The event was joint effort organised by Love Lydgate and the White Hart, with fantastic support from Saddleworth Rotary Club, whose senior member Bill Bussey gave £150 towards gifts for the children.
Prayers were led by Rev Ian Brocklehurst from Lydgate and then Sylvie, helped by Elsie, pressed the magic button to turn on the trees.
And while everyone was outside, Santa arrived in the Pavilion with his two elves.
Jennifer Greenwood, Love Lydgate’s chair, said: "Santa was so pleased to be back in Lydgate and we were delighted to see him again.
"With the bar open, Love Lydgate provided mulled wine, mince pies and special White Hart Christmas biscuits, ensuring a lovely atmosphere.
"The singing group from St Anne’s school were excellent.
"They get better each year!
“Thank you to OMBC for providing our lovely Christmas tree at the crossroads - it's a real beacon of joy to people passing by,“ she added.
