After months of meticulous planning, hard work, and thoughtful design, Age UK Oldham proudly launched its fantastic new day care centre, Ashby House on Highlands in Royton.
The event was a celebration of dedication and collaboration, as the centre was officially opened in the company of a few guests and some of the older people who come to visit each week.
Chief Executive Yvonne Lee welcomed Jayne Ratcliffe, Oldham Council’s Head of Adult Social Care, along with other local health and care staff, to commemorate the occasion.
Jayne had the honour of officially cutting the ribbon, marking the formal opening of Ashby House Day Care Centre.
This special moment highlighted the collaborative effort behind the centre’s creation and highlighted its significance to the local community.
Jayne said: “I am delighted to have been asked to formally open Ashby House Day Centre.
"Age UK Oldham does invaluable work across Oldham, offering a range of services, including day care that our residents really value.
"Day care services like this give great social benefits to those who attend and help people and their families to connect, whilst also combating loneliness.
"As with the other Age UK Oldham facilities, this new centre provides a homely feel, which is welcoming and will support vulnerable adults from across the community.
"I am sure it will be another great asset here in Oldham.”
With the ribbon cut and the centre officially open, the event signifies Age UK Oldham’s newest chapter in being able to provide further essential services and support to older people in the area.
Yvonne Lee said of Ashby House: “Following on from the success and positive feedback we’ve had from our Bluebells Day Centre in Moorside which opened in 2018, we are so pleased to be able to offer a second centre set in another beautiful residential bungalow.
"Ashby House is wholly centred around the clients’ wants and needs – many of whom live with varying forms of dementia.”
Sue Fletcher, Care Services Manager at Age UK Oldham, is also clearly thrilled with their team and what they’ve accomplished.
She added: “We are so proud of our staff for their hard work in creating this ‘home from home’ setting for our clients to enjoy.
"The response from attendees and their families has been fantastic so far and it’s really good to know we are able to make clients feel comfortable and settled whilst in our care."
The charity's Day Care service is committed to delivering a high standard of personalised care, ensuring that the needs of each individual are met while prioritising their dignity.
This approach not only enhances the experience of those attending the centre, but also provides peace of mind and respite for their families and caregivers.
The centres offer a welcoming and supportive environment where attendees can feel at ease, stay engaged in meaningful activities, receive the care they deserve and enjoy themselves.
Family members and carers are given the invaluable opportunity to take time for themselves, knowing their loved ones are in good hands.
