The Life for a Life memorial forest celebrates its 25th anniversary

Date published: 06 November 2024

The Life for a Life Memorial Forest proudly celebrated its 25th anniversary with a commemorative tree planting ceremony at the charity’s new office in Chadderton.

The event was attended by The Mayor of Oldham, Councillor Zahid Chauhan OBE, FRCGP, alongside the Life for a Life team, trustees, and special guests.

The occasion also saw Life for a Life Memorial Forest make generous donations to two significant local causes, marking the milestone with both remembrance and community support.

During the event, the charity presented £1,500 to Dr Kershaw’s Hospice and £1,000 to the Oldham Mayor’s Appeal 'Truely Wished', further emphasising Life for a Life's dedication to giving back to the community that has supported it over the past 25 years.

Meanwhile, the event also welcomed Shy Bayly, United Utilities Area Engagement Lead for Greater Manchester, whose presence underlined the ongoing partnership between United Utilities and Life for a Life Memorial Forest.

United Utilities has been a key supporter of the charity since its inception in 1999, when the first memorial tree was launched at Strinesdale Country Park, owned by United Utilities.

The company recognised the value of creating spaces for the community to plant trees in memory of loved ones, helping to combine bereavement support with environmental preservation and giving back to communities.

Shy said: “United Utilities is proud to be an early supporter of Life for a Life, and it was wonderful to be able to gather with key partners and supporters at the 25th anniversary celebration.

"It was particularly enjoyable reflecting on the journey of growth for the organisation and hearing stories of the positive impact memorial trees have had on families and the local community.”
