Homelessness charity Emmaus Mossley is hosting a Solidarity Sale event on Saturday, August 24, to raise funds to fight global poverty and social inequality.
Emmaus Mossley is inviting local shoppers and supporters to bag some bargains whilst raising funds to support vulnerable and marginalised people across the world.
The charity will donate 100% of takings that day to Emmaus International which will use the money raised to carry out worldwide solidarity programmes and campaigns.
Created in 1971, Emmaus International brings together 450 Emmaus groups in more than 40 countries, united in their mission to support vulnerable and marginalised people.
Each member group of the Emmaus movement holds at least one Solidarity Sale each year to raise funds to support their collective mission.
Hazel Hodkinson, Retail Manager at Emmaus Mossley, said: “Solidarity is one of the core values shared by all Emmaus groups.
"By shopping with us on the day of our Solidarity Sale, you will be taking action to help people and communities in desperate need.
"The funds raised on this day will be used on a range of global programmes such as improving access to basic human rights, such as education, health and water.”
Emmaus Mossley supports people who have experienced homelessness by providing them with a home, companionship, tailored support and work opportunities.
Everyone supported by the charity is encouraged to carry out acts of solidarity as it is often helps to rebuild self-esteem – proving that everyone has the capacity to make a difference to the lives of others.
Previous Emmaus Solidarity Sales have helped to fund disaster relief efforts, housing programmes, water projects in Africa, education programmes for orphaned children in India and refugee support in war-torn countries.
Without the funds raised from Solidarity Sales, some Emmaus groups would not be able to continue with their initiatives in the service of the most disadvantaged people.
Emmaus Mossley’s Solidarity Sale charity event will take place on Saturday, August 24, 10am-4pm, at their second-hand superstore, Queen Street, Mossley, OL5 9AH.
The charity’s large second-hand superstore sells a wide range of furniture, homewares, clothes, bric-a-brac, books, toys, music, vintage and upcycled items.
