A man has been jailed for drugs and firearms offences in Oldham.

On Thursday, February 8, specialist police from Greater Manchester Police's Challenger organised crime team searched an address on Castleford Street and an address on Burnley Lane, both in Oldham, following community concerns and crucial intelligence about drugs and firearms being present in the address.

Following systematic searches at both addresses police recovered a sawn off shotgun and cartridges (see image below).

Hidden in both addresses, police also discovered large amounts of heroin and mixing agents, ready for onward distribution.

Experts estimated the value of the drugs recovered was almost £24,000.

On Wednesday (August 7), Emran Hussain (aged 30) appeared at Manchester Crown Square Court.

He pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm and being concerned in the supply of class A drugs.

He has been sentenced to six years in jail.

Detective Constable Brown, from GMP's Oldham Challenger team, said: “I’d like to thank the public and local community for sharing their information and concerns with us about Emran Hussain.

"As a result, we’ve been able to remove a potentially deadly weapon and large amounts of heroin from our streets.

“We know first hand the devastation drugs can cause in our communities, and they are often the catalyst for further crime.

“We continue to work closely with our partners and communities to obtain and act upon intelligence and we want to make it clear that if you deal drugs, you are going to get caught and you are going to be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.”
