Traffic incident closes key section of Delph New Road

Police closed a key section of Delph New Road from Dobcross to Delph after a serious road traffic incident.

Local officers dealt with a road traffic collision on Delph New Road, as fire and rescue and ambulance were also in attendance - travellers were urged to find an alternative route.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said, “At around 7pm this evening (Wednesday, 24th July), firefighters were called to reports of a crash on Delph New Road in Oldham.

“One fire engine from Oldham fire station and the Technical Rescue Unit from Ashton fire station quickly arrived at the scene, which involved one car that had crashed and caught fire.

“Four males had self-rescued from the vehicle prior to the arrival of the fire crews.

"One male received treatment at the scene from GMFRS trauma technicians and the North West Ambulance Service (NWAS)..

“Colleagues at Greater Manchester Police closed the road while fire crews worked to extinguish the fire.

“Crews remained in attendance as they work to make the area safe.”

The spokesperson added: “All four casualties were conveyed to hospital.

"Crews were in attendance for around two hours.”
