Free holiday activities to help families with high costs of living

Date published: 23 July 2024

Families across Oldham can once again book on to a range of exciting activities for free this summer.

Thousands of incredibly fun and enjoyable sessions will be accessible to children and young people with activities including dance, gymnastics, rugby, boxing, swimming and acting, as part of Oldham Council's commitment to giving its young people the very best start in life.

Councillor Arooj Shah, Leader of Oldham Council, said: “Making sure children and young people get the best opportunities is one of my highest priorities and so I'm delighted we can once again put on free activities for children and families this summer.

"I know many are still struggling with high costs of living and that the summer holidays can be an expensive time when you have children.

"All parents want their kids to enjoy the summer break so I'm glad we can be there to help out by putting on so many activities as we have done in previous years.

"There are activities right across Oldham - something for every family to enjoy over the summer, with a focus on those who need that bit of extra support."

Eligible families will have received a letter giving them access to holiday activities and food programme (HAF) activities which they can book on to by visiting: www.oldham.gov.uk/HAF

If you didn't get a letter then don't worry - there are still activities available for all families and you can access these by visiting: www.whatsonoldham.org/activities-for-all/

Oldham’s holiday activities and food programme (HAF) programme is funded by the Department for Education and first began during Easter 2021.

It funds enriching activities and healthy meals for free to children aged 5-16 on benefits-related free school meals during easter, summer and winter.
