The Rotary Club of Oldham presented the Student of the Year awards in the Council Chamber at the Civic Centre in the presence of the Deputy Mayor of Oldham, Councillor Eddie Moore, and his wife.
The Oldham Student of the Year 16+ winner was Acacia Seward, from Oldham Hulme Grammar school.
The Student of the Year - 11 to 16 years - saw joint winners in Easa Abbas and Reece Barnes, both from the Blue Coat School.
Runner-up in the 16+ category was Aysha Iqbal, from Oldham Sixth Form College
The Rotary Club also made a Special Awards to Daniel Ferris from Hathershaw College and also to Joshua Tindall from Oldham Sixth Form College.
The President of the Rotary Club, Bernard Stone, gave a synopsis of Rotary locally and internationally and thanked the nominees, their schools, parents and guardians for taking part in this year’s awards.
Mr Stone said he was proud to be involved in the Awards and was amazed at the continued high standards of nominations and the wide variety of service being shown by students,
The nominations reflected the ability and determination of young people to overcome the challenges presented to them and set examples of fortitude and leadership.
The nominations received reflected the way young people have responded to the needs of communities, the needs of families and also the needs of fellow students.
The organising committee and the judging panel of Rotarians were faced with an extremely challenging number of nominations from schools, academies and colleges from across the borough and had difficult decisions to make.
All the winning students were presented with Nomination Certificates, while the winners and runners-up received certificates, a personal shield and they also received vouchers.
The Rotary Club would like to thank the staff of all participating Schools, Academies and Colleges for their support and hope that in the Academic Year 2024 – 2025, they will be able to continue with the 25th anniversary awards and encourage and acknowledge the tremendous service young people give to Oldham.
