Knives, swords and crossbows seized following police raid in Delph

Date published: 31 May 2024

In response to a series of images of weapons that were posted onto social media, Greater Manchester Police officers executed a warrant yesterday (Friday) at an address on Huddersfield Road in Delph.

Whilst searching the address, officers recovered a crossbow, gas powered air weapons, body armour, knives and swords.

Police also seized cannabis plants and harvested cannabis.

A 56-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm, possession of an offensive weapon and possession of class C drugs.

Detective Superintendent Phil Hutchinson, from GMP's Oldham district, said: “Following a proactive operation this morning we’ve seized several weapons and other items of interest.

“We know that recoveries of this nature may be distressing to those in the community, but I’d like to reassure you that we do believe this to be isolated, and there is no risk to the wider public.

“We have been, and continue to, work relentlessly to target people that we believe pose a danger to our communities.

"There is no justifiable reason for someone to want to own these sorts of weapons and we are committed to taking action against anyone who does so.

"The public play a key role in this too.
