Everyone welcome to enjoy 'hidden gem' Lyceum's exciting open day

Date published: 27 May 2024

This Saturday, June 2, the Lyceum Theatre Oldham will be hosting an Open Day from 11am-3pm.

Visitors can expect a tour of the theatre and a sneaky peak of a rehearsal in action from the upcoming production of ‘Separate Tables’.

A dedicated band of volunteers will be on hand to answer any questions about the theatre and how to get involved in the many events taking place throughout the year.

Refreshments will be available from the licensed bar.

Often referred to as Oldham’s hidden gem, the Lyceum Theatre Oldham is an amateur theatre offering quality productions.

Some recent reviews say: “I didn't even know it was there but it was a delight.

"The theatre is small and intimate.

"There's also a nicely set out bar area with a great variety of drinks at a reasonable price and very friendly staff.”

One added: “Gorgeous little community theatre run by lovely volunteers."

Since the Coliseum closed, volunteers may be looking for another theatre in the centre of Oldham where they can become involved.

They can go along to the Open Day, where representatives will be happy to show people how the theatre operates in all areas: front of house, bar and box office; also backstage – stage management, props, prompt, sound and lighting.

If they wish to see a short session of a live rehearsal, small groups will be admitted intermittently between 11am and 1.30pm.

Potential volunteers can fill in a simple form to show which areas they are interested in.

Training will be offered to anyone who expresses an interest.

Or people can just come along and look at this lovely theatre and find out about their exciting new season.

The theatre is located in the lower ground floor of the Lyceum Building at 95 Union Street, Oldham, OL1 1QG, opposite Sainsbury’s.

If anyone is interested in volunteering but is unable to attend on the day, they can email: lyceumtheatreoldham@gmail.com or telephone the theatre on 0161 627 1032 and leave a message about their interests and someone will get back to them.
