Oldham Mountain Rescue Team were contacted by Greater Manchester Police late on Monday afternoon for assistance with a lost female in the Dovestones area who had called 999.

She was unable to get down from the hillside and was feeling unwell.

Initially her location was unknown, but using Phone Find technology the team were able to plot her location below Dean Rocks.

Team members were deployed to the area, some via Ashway and another group via Fox Stone to find her.

From the control vehicle located at the bottom of Ashway Gap, team members noticed a red jacket amongst a rocky area below the edge path.

Once team members had climbed up to the top they were guided to the sighting.

This was the female they were seeking.

One of the team’s Remote Rescue Medical Technicians assessed the casualty and found she had injured her leg and was cold.

Due to the potential long carry-off, a Maritime and Coastguard Agency helicopter was requested to assist with the evacuation of the casualty.

The casualty was placed on a stretcher, hauled up the steep rocky ground and loaded into the helicopter for transfer to hospital.

Thanks also to North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust who had deployed an ambulance to the area in case the casualty needed transferring from Dovestones.

A total of 21 team members were involved for four hours and 45 minutes.
