More than 100 candidates are jostling for residents’ votes in the local elections in Oldham this year - where one third of seats are up for grabs.
All 20 wards will have to choose a candidate to fill the position for the next four years.
Currently, the town is made up of 31 Labour councillors, ten Liberal Democrats, eight Conservatives and a total of nine Independent councillors, some of which are associated with the Failsworth Independents, Oldham Group and Independent Group.
These figures recently changed, with a number of councillors switching allegiances shortly before the election period.
Councillors Nyla Ibrahim and Shoab Akhtar decided to leave the Labour party on Friday (April 6), as the candidates list was being finalised.
Earlier this year, independent councillor Aftab Hussain switched to Labour.
The current political make-up means Oldham Labour have a majority of only one council seat.
If they lose one councill overall, this would mean there is ‘No Overall Control’ in the council.
In this year’s election, held on Thursday May 2, there are 20 Lib Dems candidates, 19 Conservatives, 19 Labour, seven Greens and 35 Independents and candidates from other smaller parties like Reform UK.
Voter registration closes on at midnight on Tuesday, April 16.
Under new government legislation, voters must also now show photo ID when voting in person, as you will be turned away without this.
If you do not currently have an accepted form of photo ID such as a passport or driving licence, you can apply for a Voter Authority Certificate before 5pm on April 24.
The deadline to register to vote by post is 5pm on Wednesday, April 17 while the deadline to register online for a proxy vote is 5pm on Wednesday, April 24.
The full list of candidates has now been published by Oldham council:
