Former Oldham GP Dr Kathleen Buckley
Tributes have been paid following the death of much-loved former Oldham GP Dr Kathleen Buckley.
Chesterfield-born Dr Buckley, who was more affectionatley known as Kate, died on March 16 in Sheffield Northern General Hospital at the age of 79.
Kate retired from Hopwood House surgery in Oldham following the death of her husband Chris Buckley.
However, she later continued to practice medicine in various other roles.
Graduating with a medical degree from Manchester University in 1970 and following her marriage to Christopher, the couple settled in Coppice, where Kate continued to reside until 2023.
One of her GP partner’s paid tribute, saying: "General Practice was Kate's passion and she was much loved by her patients, many of whom she had seen born and later go on to have children of their own.
"Continuity of care and knowing families across generations gave Kate the greatest professional pleasure.
"As a partner to work with she was always supportive and encouraging.
"She was not only a valued colleague, but a trusted personal friend."
Kate had recently relocated to her home back in Chesterfield following the very sudden death of her only child and daughter Hazel, an experienced and well-known cellist.
Dr Buckley’s funeral will take place at:
Chesterfield Crematorium, 2:10 pm on May 3, 2024, Chesterfield Road, Chesterfield S43 1AU.
There is a direct route from Junction 29 of the M1.
Local station: Chesterfield Midland Station, Chesterfield S41 7UB (five minutes away in a taxi).
Mourners are invited to join the family afterwards for refreshments before the journey home.
