Saddleworth Rangers under-15s are gearing up to tour Jamaica
Saddleworth Rangers' talented under-15s team are gearing up for what promises to be the experience of a lifetime - a rugby league tour to Jamaica!
Under the guidance of coaches Emmerson Jackman, Johnny Johnson, Craig Brindley and Paul Ashton, the Rangers lads will jet off to Jamaica at the end of May, for 10 nights.
The players have fundraised to get themselves there (this has paid for the bulk of the tour) and there are also some sponsors getting involved, while three Saddleworth Parish councillors have also kindly stepped in with vital contributions.
Cllr Max Woodvine, Cllr Helen Bishop and Cllr Graham Sheldon have all contributed equally to cover the cost of the protective headwear for the tour.
This included 20 headguards (supplied, discounted and including free initials and club badge by Oxen) and 20 bucket hats - at a total cost of £500.
A Rangers spokesperson said: "The tour involves visiting various Jamaican schools for training time and we will be sharing our experience and skills with the school children over there.
"Towards the end of the tour a tournament has also been planned to consolidate all the practice and learning that has taken place.
"Jamaica made its debut in the Rugby League World Cup in 2021 and they are up and coming.
"We want to support them from the grassroots."
