Northmoor Library gets set for a makeover

A new chapter in the life story of Northmoor Library is set to start.

Oldham Council has secured funding to transform the Chadderton Way building and improve facilities for all library users.

The money from the Arts Council England’s Library Improvement Fund, Round 2, will be used to make repairs and improvements to the building.

These include a new roof, doors and windows, making energy efficiency improvements.

The existing digital offer will be upgraded with the addition of a study space and more computers, plus community groups will be encouraged to use the newly reconfigured library as a space for meetings and events.

And it’s not just the building and its interior that will be improved - a community garden is being added, giving residents the chance to take part in an education programme so they can look to gain qualifications.

In total £151,520 has been provided and the council has also given funding to the value of £17,000.

Councillor Peter Dean, Cabinet Member for Communities and Culture, said: “These improvements are great news for everyone who uses the library and the wider community.

“Northmoor is already much more than a place where people come just to take out books.

“In recent years the library has become a real community hub, thanks to the wide range of sessions and activities that our library staff have co-produced and delivered with, and for, residents.

“This funding will help us improve that existing offer, whilst continuing to provide access to vital services and learning opportunities.”
