This morning (Friday), police followed a trail from Piccadilly Gardens to a suspect following an incident where a member of the public was robbed and assaulted.
GMP's Operation Vulcan launched an investigation and it led them to an apartment in Mossley, where a 20-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of robbery, theft from person, and assault.
He remains in police custody for questioning.
A second man, aged 26, was also arrested on suspicion of possession of class A drugs and possession of nitride oxide.
Detective Sergeant Matt Donnelly, one of Operation Vulcan’s specialist officers, said: “We’ve got a team of officers who are dedicated to investigating every incident of robbery or theft that happens in Piccadilly Gardens to drive down this type of crime and protect the public from opportunistic, volatile thieves.
“This, paired with regular covert and overt patrols means we are utilising a variety of tactics to tackle the crimes which matter the most to our communities.
“I hope this morning’s action shows that regardless of where you live in Greater Manchester or further afield, Operation Vulcan will take action.”
