Housing development overlooking the greenbelt to be built on old high school land

A huge development of large family homes will be built on the grounds of the former Mossley Hollins High School.
Over a decade after the old school was demolished, a 50-home development has been given the green light by Tameside Council.
The Huddersfield Road site has been vacant since the school moved down the road into a new building in 2011.
The new site would be split into 12 three-bed homes and 38 four-bed properties on the hilly site overlooking the green belt land beyond.
Four of the homes would be available for affordable rent (up to 80 per cent of market value) and three would be provided on a shared ownership basis.
All homes would have two car parking spaces off the front as well as an electric car charging point.
A pedestrian and cycle link will be provided within the south western corner of the site.
The plans also include a number of trees and hedgerows to immerse the homes within the greener landscape.
A planning documents from developer Cube Homes read: “The site has undergone an extensive design review, in close collaboration with the client, the consultant team, and the local authority.
"The result is an attractive residential development, which will positively contribute to the local area, and will fit well within its surroundings.
“The development will deliver a range of high quality three and four bedroom homes, which will make a valuable contribution to local housing supply.
"To conclude, it has been clearly demonstrated through this statement that the development proposes an efficient use of land, which will enhance the surrounding area.”
