Staff at a local nursery in Failsworth have pledged to literally climb a mountain in a bid to raise much-needed funds for two-year-old Daylen, who has been diagnosed with leukaemia.
Warm-hearted staff now plan to walk up Snowdonia in North Wales on April 20 as they raise money for Daylen, who is now undergoing chemotherapy treatment at the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital.
A GoFundMe page has been set up by Rebecca Hart, and the £5,000 target has almost been reached already.
Rebecca said in a post on the page: "We have been informed at the nursery I work at that a little boy we look after has been diagnosed with leukaemia at just two years old - as you can imagine we are all heartbroken and wanting to do anything we can to help!!
"I’m asking any and all my friends if anyone has anything they can offer for a raffle prizes please contact me!!
"If you have a business and can donate vouchers etc, please shout me!!
"This isn’t just a little boy who attends our nursery, he is part of our nursery family and we want to do anything we can to help raise some funds.
"So the staff at the nursery are planning on doing a walk up snowdonia on Saturday 20th April if anyone would like to sponsor me and the others please let me know.
"Much love and appreciation."
Daylen's mum Laurie has revealed the story of when her and Daylen's dad Ryan received the devastating diagnosis.
Laurie said: "One week ago our lives changed forever.
"We were admitted to the children’s kuala unit at North Manchester Hospital.
"As many of you will know our precious boy Daylen has been poorly for the past month.
"After different diagnoses of UTI, whooping cough, viral infections, multiple trips back and forth to the GP and A&E, someone finally took us seriously.
"An urgent brain scan on arrival to Kuala unit revealed Daylen had a “tumour” behind his left eye, his bloods were all deranged and we would be transferred over to Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital the following day.
"Again multiple blood tests, blood transfusions, CT scans, MRI scans, and a trip to theatre for more tests, then we were given the definitive diagnosis we were dreading… Daylen has leukaemia.
"These words should never have to be heard by any parent, and as you can imagine we are completely and utterly heartbroken.
"Today our brave boy will start his chemotherapy journey and with the love and support he has from his mummy, daddy and big brother, as well as all of our amazing family I’m sure as hell he’s going to beat this.
"Myself and Ryan have had multiple messages from people asking how Daylen is and people sending their love and prayers, so we just want to let people know where we are.
"Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers as we have a long journey ahead of us, but this is one fight we are determined to win."
