Studio Four hosts latest project day focusing on young people's pandemic experiences

Date published: 01 December 2023

An excited group of local young people descended on Credible Media Group's headquarters in Oldham as part of a poignant project regarding experiences encountered during the pandemic.

My Story, My Voice: A COVID-19 Story, is about capturing, preserving, and sharing the first-hand experiences of young people of colour and their families during the pandemic.

The latest project day was staged at Credible's Studio Four event facility, while the young people also took part in recording sessions in the adjacent Credible Media Group state-of-the-art recording and radio studios.

The 18-month long project focus has been on the deeper connection to, and appreciation of family tradition, culture, and heritage that took place between families of colour during the lockdowns.

Award-nominated social impact organisation, Skills 4 All, has been sharing industry standard digital skills with students from St Anne’s Academy in Middleton and Blue Coat in Oldham.

The young people have been learning to develop skills in capturing oral histories, video storytelling, and digital scrapbooking.

These digital tools are being used by the young people to tell, validate, and celebrate their lockdown stories.

This project has been made possible with the funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund and National Lottery players.

Skills 4 All are thankful for their support.

Skills 4 All is an award nominated community organisation.

Founded in 2019, Skills 4 All is committed to helping young people in underserved areas step into a future that excites them and helps them to discover their true potential in an ever-growing digital space.

Skills 4 All Co-Directors Rubbi Bhogal-Wood and Reddy Lenge said of the Media Day Immersion Experience: "The young people were buzzing from the whole event.

"They got to chat with industry professionals and ask them about life in the creative space.

"I think the most enjoyable part for them was being able to write and record an advert live in the studio.

"Judging by their performances in front of the mics we’d say there are some future radio superstars in the making.

"And that’s the whole point of this event: to inspire young people from Oldham to see themselves working in the burgeoning digital sector."
