Oldham’s green-fingered community is set to enjoy two revamped allotment spaces thanks to a team of volunteers from Caddick Construction Group as part of the business’ first Communities Week volunteer programme.
The project has seen a team of volunteers from Caddick Construction work with charitable allotment initiative, Good to Grow, to bring to life a disused allotment space at Wildbrook, complete with new timber racking, a shed and A frames for the polytunnels.
Joined by helpers from Mayo Civils and Groundworks Oldham, the community project also included the refurbishment of indoor space at Alexandra Park to create a breakout room for volunteers as well as an on-site classroom for local children.
The volunteer project formed part of Caddick’s first annual Communities Week programme, which was launched as part of its wider Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) strategy, Places for Life.
Building on the business’ continuous efforts to support the communities local to its projects, the inaugural Communities Week saw staff donate over 300 hours to good causes across Yorkshire, the North East, North West and Midlands.
Volunteers chose the Leyland initiative as part of Caddick’s work on behalf of First Choice Homes Oldham to build West Vale, a development of 88 new affordable homes at the Gateway to Oldham.
Paul Dodsworth, Caddick Construction Group Managing Director, said: “Investing in and supporting communities has been a big focus for our business for many years and it's a really important and very well established part of our business culture.
"Launching Communities Week builds on those solid foundations and empowers our staff to seek out initiatives so they can volunteer their time to make a difference.
"Our ambition was that this initiative would be collaborative, and we’ve had an incredible response from our clients and supply chain partners, who have volunteered alongside the Caddick team.”
