Siblings Joshua and Megan Bruton will both attend the University of Oxford
Oldham Sixth Form College is celebrating Joshua and Megan Bruton’s success in both attending the prestigious University of Oxford following their respective A Level studies.
A first in the college's history, the former Saddleworth School siblings will be studying there together for one year, albeit at different colleges.
Josh is heading off to study Maths at Lady Margaret Hall College and Megan is going into her final year of studying English Literature at University College.
Josh is really excited to be heading off to Oxford soon and cannot thank the college enough for their support in helping him to get there:
He said: "It's been a long countdown to move-in day, but that's given me plenty of time to learn some new recipes and life skills that will no doubt come in handy!
"Oxford has sent over some Maths tasks to keep our thinking skills sharp, but the packing and shopping rush will kick in soon.
"There are also plenty of websites and social media groups designed for us to get to know people which I've been making good use of.
"I am grateful for the opportunities I've been able to access through OSFC to help me pursue Maths at Oxford - from competitions to masterclasses and even summer schools.
"I am incredibly grateful for the support given during the application and interview process too."
Megan is thoroughly enjoying life at Oxford and, on a recent return visit to OSFC, recommended Oxford, and all its opportunities, to its current students, as well as offering excellent advice.
She said: "Studying at Oxford is so exciting.
"It's super-intense and fast-paced, but in all the best ways.
"The opportunities that present themselves, academic and otherwise, are unique and wide-ranging.
"I'm really grateful to be in an environment that offers me so much scope to follow niche interests.
"To students applying to Oxbridge my advice would be to keep doing what you love.
"Oxford and Cambridge seek students who are passionate about their subjects.
"If you find something that you're really interested in, keep reading about it, and let it take you down a rabbit hole of new material and ideas.
"The more you show your curiosity, the better!"
Josh and Megan’s parents, Lorna and Paul, are justifiably delighted with their outcomes and thankful to the college too.
Lorna said: "We are so proud of how hard they both worked to achieve this success.
"However, without the incredible support of OSFC, they would not have considered Oxford as a possibility or known the first thing about how to apply.
"OSFC has long established systems in place to give students from all backgrounds the opportunity to achieve their very best in whatever subject they are passionate about.
"For Megan and Joshua, the Oxbridge Group, run by Dr Richard Lee, gave them the know-how on applications and interviews, alongside invaluable trips to Oxford and help getting onto access courses.
"OSFC provides first class support to all students who want to apply."
Dr Lee is also thrilled at their success.
He said: "I have worked at OSFC for 28 years, supporting our Oxbridge applicants, and Megan and Josh are our first pair of siblings from the same family to progress onto Oxford.
"It’s an amazing achievement and testament to their incredible diligence and their deep-rooted and genuine enthusiasm for their respective subjects.
"It was a privilege and a pleasure to help them both.
"Oxford is very lucky to have them!"
