Latics' disabled supporters group shortlisted for prestigious award

Date published: 04 October 2023

OADID (Oldham Athletic's disabled supporters association) has been nominated for a prestigious award.

The Latics fans' group have been named among the finalists in the equality, inclusion and diversity category in the Football Content Awards.

OADID group member Aaron Diskin has also been nominated in the individual award category.

Aaron told the Chronicle: "I was one of the founding members of the group.

"We formed officially in August, 2022, with the help and support of the Oldham Athletic Supporters Foundation, so we've only been going for just over a year.

"Therefore this makes these nominations all the more special to us.

"We formed shortly after the Rothwell family takeover to give disabled supporters of Oldham Athletic a new found voice to be able to voice their opinions on what needs to change at Boundary Park to make the match day experience accessible for all.

"With the fantastic support of Frank and Darren and co, so far we've been able to block the back row of the Rochdale Road End of the stadium off to discourage supporters from standing up and blocking the view from disabled supporters, and we've also radar keyed all of the disabled toilets within the stadium, amongst other initiatives.

"This is only the start for us though, and although we are proud of the progress we are making, we recognise that there is still work to be done."

OADID require votes from the public for the award nominations, and only have until this Monday (October 9) before voting ends.
