Ford urges RL fans to check out all that's on offer at Boundary Park tonight

Mike Ford, who is currently doubling up as the Oldham club’s managing director and interim head coach, has urged the town’s rugby league fans to take advantage of the opportunity to look at both Roughyeds AND the new Joe Royle Stand at Boundary Park when promotion-seeking Oldham play Workington Town on a new £1m pitch there tonight (Wednesday, kick-off 7.30pm).

Oldham move to Boundary Park lock, stock and barrel next season, irrespective of whether they are in Division One or the Championship, but Latics have allowed them to play this rearranged game with the Cumbrians there tonight as well as any home games they might get in the play-offs.

Said Ford: “It will be a big night for the club, but it will also be a big night for our fans and a big night for the town.

"It will give everybody a chance to see how terrific the facilities are at Boundary Park and what awaits them next season.

“The new Joe Royle Stand will be open and its a fantastic facility which we would like as many Rugby League fans as possible to see first hand.

"It’s exciting to be playing on a new £1m pitch in a great stadium and I know it will inspire our players no end to be out there in front of family, workmates.

“Our fans are first and foremost in our thoughts and we know they will love the match-night experience at BP.

"We are working all the time on giving them value for money and a great day out next season and although there hasn’t been much time for the Workington game we’ll do our utmost to make it a great night for everybody and I know the Latics will too.”

Turning to football matters, the side’s performance in beating Rochdale 24-20 on the penultimate play of the game at the weekend and prospects for the Workington match, Ford concluded: “We didn’t see the best version of Oldham at Rochdale.

"We bombed a few chances in the first half and that energised Hornets.

"But we found a way to win and all credit to the team for that.

“It won’t come any easier against Workington.

"They are a huge side, well coached by Anthony Murray, and it’s a must-win game for both teams given that Town have a chance of fourth place and we have a chance of third.

"We need to win to go into the last weekend of the regular season still with a chance of finishing third.

"If we lose, the chances are we’ll finish fourth or fifth.

“We need to be up for this one - and ready to go.”

Fans will be situated in the Joe Royle Stand tonight and tickets are priced at £16 for adults, £10 for concessions, £5 for students and free for under-16s.

Corporate hospitality is also available and is priced at £25 per person which includes a match ticket, pie and peas as well as a Q&A session with John Fieldhouse, who was part of the 1989/90 Second Division Premiership Final-winning side that beat Hull KR 30-29 at Old Trafford.
