New play area unveiled at Daisy Nook

Children in Oldham can now enjoy an exciting new play area in Daisy Nook Country Park.

The park’s newly-installed equipment provides a range of fun activities, including a climbing frame, ladders, diggers and a sand pit three times bigger than it was previously.   

The council carried out these works after the park’s former wooden play boat was removed last year, as it was no longer safe.

Knowing how well-loved the area is to the local community, Oldham Council sought new funding to create this improved play area, with works on the structures costing £15,000. 

Councillor Arooj Shah, Leader of Oldham Council, said: "I'm delighted that work has now finished on our wonderful new play area in Daisy Nook, with even bigger and better play facilities for children to enjoy this summer.

"I hope this will be welcome news for local families, especially after we unfortunately had to remove the play boat for safety reasons last year.

"One of my top priorities is to improve our neighbourhoods and parks across the borough, creating cleaner, greener and more enjoyable places for people to live."

This announcement comes hot on the heels of Love Parks Week (July 28 to August 6), an annual campaign that highlights our parks, green spaces, and the dedicated volunteers and workers that look after them all year round.  

Councillor Chris Goodwin, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, added: “This new play area is a fantastic addition to our park in Daisy Nook.

“Our borough has some of the best parks and green spaces around and, while the weather has been a bit wet of late, I encourage you all to go out and explore these amazing public spaces when you can, especially our new play area.”
