Charity fundraiser extraordinaire and Shaw deputy headteacher Steve Hill MBE is now just a week away from his ‘biggest challenge to date’, as he has pledged to run 14 marathons this August.
Steve, the deputy headteacher at St Joseph’s Roman Catholic Primary School in Shaw, jets off next Monday, July 31, ahead of his amazing ’14 Marathons Challenge'.
Steve said: "I’ll be flying to Costa Rica next Monday, where I’ll be running Coast to Coast through the jungles from the Pacific Coast to the Caribbean Coast, which is seven marathons in seven days.
"I’ll then be flying to Tajikistan where I’ll be running another seven marathons along the Silk Road.
"I’ve been training hard for the past nine months and I feel physically and mentally ready for this huge challenge.
"I hope that this challenge helps to inspire the children I teach to believe that through self- belief, hard work and determination and never giving up, anything is possible.
"I’ll also be raising funds for Team Hill Charitable Trust to help continue making a small difference in the world.
"I received a lovely send off from my pupils at school on Friday - they gave me lucky mascots to take with me along with motivational letters from them to read during my tough challenge.
"The children are always a massive motivation for me.
"Thanks to everyone for their support and encouragement so far - it always means a lot."
Steve's chief challenge is to raise money for the Team Hill Charitable Trust, which works to help Oldhamers and Ugandans.
The charity is currently helping to build a school in Uganda.
