Oldham's 'Big Tea' celebrates the NHS' 75th anniversary in style

Oldham Integrated Care Partnership (ICP) and Oldham Council joined forces to celebrate the NHS’ 75th anniversary with tea and cake.

An ‘NHS Big Tea’ was held at the Mayor’s Parlour in the Civic Centre, in honour of the momentous birthday and as a thank you to everyone who has contributed to the success of the world-famous organisation.

Local NHS staff, health workers, volunteers and Oldham councillors were joined by the Mayor of Oldham, Councillor Zahid Chauhan OBE; Dr Shelley Grumbridge, Deputy Clinical Lead NHS Oldham Integrated Care Partnership, and Nicola Hepburn, Deputy Place Lead NHS Oldham Integrated Care Partnership – who paid their respects to the history of the NHS and all the hard work from those involved then and now.

As part of the celebrations, the Mayor of Oldham, Dr Grumbridge, and Ms Hepburn judged the bakes of colleagues from across the Partnership and Council for an NHS Bake Challenge - before the home-made treats were enjoyed by everyone who came along to the event.

Everyone who attended on the day was also encouraged to make a voluntary donation to NorthCare Charity which supports NHS staff, patients and families in Bury, Oldham, Rochdale and Salford – raising £78 in total for the cause.

Dr Grumbridge said: “We are so proud to work for the NHS and to be connected to all the amazing things it has done for people in Oldham and across the country, over the past 75 years.

"The NHS is unique, improving the health and quality of lives for the people in this country and rewarding work for all those working in the NHS.

“Ensuring that everyone receives first-class medicine and health care is an absolute honour but no mean feat for those involved – so we didn’t want to miss the opportunity to thank those that are helping to achieve this today.

"I, personally, am particularly proud to be celebrating today having worked in the NHS since the age of 18 in the town I grew up in.”

The Mayor of Oldham, Councillor Chauhan OBE, said: “The NHS plays such a key role in everyone’s lives - you can’t imagine being without it, and what makes it all possible is the brilliant people who work there.

“That’s why celebrating 75 years of the NHS is so important as it gives us a chance to say thank you to everyone who makes this brilliant service able to help so many.

"Oldham has fantastic NHS services so I’m glad we can take a day to properly celebrate and show our appreciation to everyone involved in making this historic organisation what it is today.”
