Community champions Saddleworth Rotary Club have donated £13,338 to local and international causes, figures for 2022/23 reveal.

They include: Scout Jamboree - £200, Gap Kenya - £1500, Royal British Legion - £50, Mahdlo Christmas Party - £750, Light Up Lydgate - £120, Defibrillators - £1188, Foundation - £1140, Foundation Pakistan Appeal - £1000,  Oldham Foodbank - £500, Women's Refuge - £250, U.K. Med (Turkey) - £1000, Diggle Band Contest Committee - £300, ECO Centre Lees - £5340 (includes £1000.00 District Grant).

The club's incoming president Jon Stocker, who also heads up the community remit, said: "The expenditure is financed by the headline fund raising/community projects – Wellifest and the Saddleworth Show which, combined,  generated £24,000.

"This is shared with Oldham Metro Rotary club, our partners.

“The plan for this year is as well as the large events, is to do smaller community events on a more regular basis.

“This could be done in support, or alongside, other service organisations.

"By doing this the hope is to increase the profile of Saddleworth Rotary in the area and to encourage friends or new members to join."

2023/24 main projects are the Wellifest Music Festival on June 24 and Saddleworth Show on June 25.
