Between a few late afternoon thundery showers, the Oldham Mountain Rescue Team were contacted by Greater Manchester Police asking for assistance with a female who had become lost on the moors while out walking on Sunday (June 11).

The female was able to provide a rough location and after using Phonefind technology, the team were able to establish her exact whereabouts as near Running Hill pits.

They soon had a fast party heading towards the casualty.

She had done the sensible thing by staying put after the emergency call and after establishing she was okay, she was walked down to the rescue team vehicles for a more thorough check and then reunited with her vehicle to make her own way home.

Some of the rescue team's hungry team members were then able to also be reunited with their burgers and sausages waiting on the BBQ!

With summer now firmly on us, it is important to remember the basics before heading out into the hills.

Check the route is within your capabilities, have a map and compass and know how to use it, tell someone your plans, check the weather, and take extra food, clothing, a torch and a fully charged phone.

Nine OMRT personnel were involved for just under one hour.
