Heart-broken friends of an Oldham man killed in a moped crash in Turkey are fundraising to help towards the cost of flying his body home, and his funeral.
Kyle Barrow, who was 27, and his best friend Cal Junior, 24, arrived in the resort of Antalya early last Wednesday (June 7).
They hired mopeds ahead of a “day of adventures” jet skiing and parasailing at the beach.
After hopping back on their scooters at lunchtime, they were close to their hotel when Cal realised his friend was no longer behind him – and turned to see he had crashed and was lying in the road.
After being taken to hospital, Kyle was later declared dead there, reports the Mirror.
A GoFund Me page has now been organised by Valerie Barker, and on there is a message from devastated friend Cal.
The message reads: "As many of you will already have sadly heard by now, my best friend Kyle was involved in a collision whilst riding a moped in Turkey on Wednesday 7th June.
"I held him in my arms by the roadside as he gave me one last smile, followed by his last breath
"We’ve been dealt another devastating blow after being told his insurance cannot cover the cost of bringing him back to the UK due to being purchased whilst we were were already in Turkey.
"Kyle was loved by everyone and it is with the heaviest heart and deepest sense of urgency that I ask for your support and kindness during this difficult time.
"Any donation, no matter how small, will go directly towards covering the expenses associated with flying Kyle from Turkey, back to the UK and towards the send off that he deserves.
"I'd like to thank everyone for their messages and well wishes, they've not gone unnoticed.
"Please help us get our Keezy home. Cal x"
A fundraising target of £35,000 has been set on the GoFundMe page, and already the total raised is approaching £16,000 by lunchtime today (Monday).
The Foreign Office said: “We are assisting the family of a British man who died in Turkey and are in contact with the local authorities.”
