GMP’s Operation Acquire returns to local neighbourhoods this summer

Date published: 08 June 2023

Operation Acquire is Greater Manchester Police's (GMP) force wide initiative that will see four days of action carried out across the months of June and July, with extra resources deployed to target and arrest criminals suspected of committing neighbourhood offences.

Readers might remember Operation Acquire from the end of last year, when GMP launched four days of action during November and December 2022, which saw hundreds arrested and officers providing crime prevention advice such as leaflets, across neighbourhoods in Greater Manchester.

Police insist that it is imperative that they continue the same momentum seen last year into the summer months of 2023.

Neighbourhood Crime consists of vehicle crime, domestic burglary, theft from a person (including pickpocketing) and robbery.

These crimes are some of the most impactive to those who live in our communities.

Operation Acquire will robustly tackle crime and endeavour to keep our communities safe from those who blight your neighbourhoods.

Detective Chief Superintendent Emily Higham, the force lead for neighbourhood crime, said: “Operation Acquire was a huge success last year in November and December, with over 100 arrests and 1000's of crime prevention advice leaflets given out across Greater Manchester during our four days of action.

“We recognise that neighbourhood crimes are some of the most impactful crimes that we see, as they are an attack on you, your home and your vehicle.

"It is really important for GMP to tackle these issues and it remains a force priority.

“These days of action consist of intensified activity to tackle neighbourhood crime with extra resources deployed to support the efforts.

"However, this is not just four days of action; every day and night, throughout the year, neighbourhood officers are out in your community fighting and preventing crimes from taking place.

“We will continue to listen to concerns and take them on board when prioritising where in your community we need to have visible presence and what we need focus on to make people feel safer.

“I would urge members of the public to promote and join a Neighbourhood watch scheme in your area by visiting www.ourwatch.org.uk to sign up.

"If you have any intelligence, however small you think that is, please contact us or inform Crimestoppers on 0800 555 1111.

“Our preventative advice makes it easy for you to make it hard for criminals and it is imperative to follow the advice to help keep yourself and your property safe from criminals."
