Oldham gears up for a right royal celebration!
Date published: 26 April 2023
The Coronation of King Charles III will be on Saturday week, May 6
Coronation Day, Saturday, May 6, will be celebrated in style across Oldham.
Residents have been busy organising street parties, and Oldham Council has helped out with funding for over 100 of them.
Meanwhile outside the Old Town Hall, from 10am until 6pm, you’ll be able to watch the Coronation live on a big screen, followed by an afternoon of live music and family entertainment.
There’ll be a musical extravaganza with the “Best of British” tribute bands.
Do It Like Dua – A Tribute To Dua Lipa will bring Oldhamers the lively sounds of dream pop and nu-disco, while 70s-80s ska-pop Madness tribute band Gladness will take us “One Step Beyond”.
Glam rockers Queen II will serenade King Charles III in royal style, and Tania as Amy Winehouse will wrap Oldham in her smooth, sophisticated blues and jazz.
Last but not least, Oldham’s very own the Threetles will take us back to the 60s Mersey Beat – they’re bigger than the Beatles (though not literally).
There'll also be Coronation-themed creative workshops for children, and family-friendly street performers, including the Bouncing Busby Guards, King of the Dinosaurs Tyrone the T-Rex and The Great British Garden Party.
The council's encouraging residents to follow #CoronationOldham on social media, to look out for their Countdown to Coronation Quiz on Twitter @OldhamCouncil, every day till Friday, May 5, and to share their pictures on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter, tagging #CoronationOldham
