Talented Royton artist Ben Power
Talented Royton creative Ben Power is continuing to make his way in the world of art and business.
Former Bury Grammar School pupil Ben, who is now 21, currently has a piece of work on display at the prestigious York Museum Art Gallery, and more of his work has been commissioned locally.
Ben recently entered the Aesthetica Art Competition 2023, and was the youngest artist selected from thousands of world wide entries.
His piece, an acrylic on canvas, has now been chosen to be one of 125 artists’ creations to be featured by Aesthetica for their 2023 Art Prize.
The exhibition is presently showing at York Museum Art Gallery where his artwork is displayed on the rolling screen of long listers.
His name also appears on the wall amongst all of the credited artists.
Regarding his win Ben, who is now in his final year as a BA Hons student of Graphic Design at Nottingham Trent University, said: "It has boosted my confidence to know that my work stands up in the community of worldwide contemporary artists.
"Having it displayed in the York Museum Art Gallery feels like a great first step towards more opportunities to get my art work out there and hopefully start to make some sales.”
Ben's inspiration for this, and many of his pieces, is taken from the world of graffiti.
He brings together the essence of design and street art together in an abstract way with a background in, and love for, graphic design.
He is inspired by how graffiti can break up the greyness and tedium of city life, bringing excitement, intrigue and interest, as well as disgust and outrage to what would otherwise be a faceless background object or building.
The Future Now anthology in York features a double page spread of his entry, alongside those of other talented contemporary artists judged to fit the criteria for this year’s prize.
The whole exhibition is excellent and well worth a visit.
Meanwhile, Ben’s work has also been commissioned by Mastershakes on Rochdale Road in Shaw, where two of his canvasses are displayed alongside a whole wall which he put together for owner Jag Warinch
He would love to do more work like this.
Prints of his work are also displayed in Chadderton Optician, the sales from which he donates a portion to charity.
If anyone is interested in purchasing Ben's work, prints of similar pieces are available on his website at: https://visualmob.co.uk/
