Kerai family remember Sanjay with a Rose to Remember

Date published: 26 April 2023

Dr Kershaw’s in Royton have launched Rose to Remember, giving the community the opportunity to dedicate a beautiful yellow, metal rose to their loved ones.

Their dedication will in turn enable more patients and their families across the community to receive specialist care and support from the Hospice.

Family members of Sanjay Bhudia, who received care from the Hospice before he sadly passed away on April 25, 2022, have been fundraising for the Hospice ever since, with almost £9,000 raised in his memory.

They have taken part in a Colour Obstacle Rush as well as Dr Kershaws' very own Sky Dive.

With the launch of Rose to Remember, the family wanted to show their support for the Hospice once again by making a rose dedication in Sanjay’s memory.

Sanjay was Bhavini Kerai’s uncle.

Bhavini has explained why she and her family are supporting Rose to Remember.

She said: “Dr Kershaw’s staff were compassionate and supportive, showing empathy by letting my grandma stay with my uncle so she wasn’t worrying.

"The staff had a genuine desire to help.

"No request we had was too much trouble for the staff, the care given was outstanding and staff were very attentive of our needs along with my uncles.

"The team were approachable and everyone provided a homelike environment including the volunteers.

"The Hospice is comfortable and peaceful with a warm atmosphere, like a home from home.

"We want to give back for the support we received by purchasing a rose.

"It’s a precious way of remembering your loved ones.

"Please support Rose to Remember, so the Hospice can offer the same level of care to others that my uncle and our family received.”

For the second year running, Rose to Remember also has the backing of the team at the Co-op store on Rochdale Road in Royton - who are already supporters of the work carried out at the Hospice to support patients in the local community.

The Co-op store team will be supporting the Rose to Remember Event by donating supplies to be served at Café K, as well as helping to serve refreshments.

Darren Ramsden, Co-op Store Manager, said: “Co-op is committed to making a difference in the local community, and the Royton Co-op store is delighted to once again be able to support Dr Kershaw’s Rose to Remember.

"Dr Kershaw's is not only close to my own heart, but I know it has made a real difference to so many other families in our community too.

"We wish Rose to Remember every success, and we are proud to be able to contribute towards the vital work that the Hospice provides locally.”

This year’s Dr Kershaws' Rose to Remember gives you the chance to honour the life and memory of someone special by purchasing a beautiful, metal yellow rose.

Every rose has been crafted with care specially for the Hospice by local company, GJ Engineering Group of Royton.

The rose measures around 6cm in diameter and 30cm high to enable them to be planted in the Hospice garden creating a blanket of yellow in remembrance and celebration of your loved ones.

Money raised from all dedicated roses – which cost £10 each – will contribute towards funding the vital care of patients and their families at Dr Kershaw’s Hospice.

An exclusive viewing of the roses will take place at Dr Kershaw’s Hospice on Sunday, July 2 from 11.30am to 2pm at the Hospice’s Rose to Remember event, where a short celebrant service will take place in celebration of your loved ones and members of Dr Kershaw’s staff and Bereavement Support Team will be on hand to talk to visitors.

You will also have the opportunity to enjoy performances from Dr Kershaw’s Hospice Choir, to purchase refreshments from Café K and browse through Hospice stalls, with garden games available for children.

Each rose will be placed in the Hospice gardens for collection during the Rose to Remember event.

If you are unable to attend the event or to call in to the Hospice to collect your rose, Dr Kershaw’s will mail your rose out to you for a small additional charge of £5 per rose to cover postage and packaging.

Once you have made your dedication, the Hospice will also write your loved one/s name on a special rose card.

Your personal dedication card will be displayed on the tree in the centre of Dr Kershaw’s stunning gardens for you to view on the day and take away with your rose on the day.

Jill Kirkham, Community Fundraising Lead at Dr Kershaw’s, said: “Whether remembering those you have lost or simply showing your support for our Hospice, your kindness and generosity will help to support our future patients now and in years to come, at the same time as honouring your loved one’s memory.

"By dedicating a rose you will make a difference to the patients in our care – what a wonderful gift.

"Your £10 could provide a good night’s sleep, helping towards a patient’s freshly laundered bedlinen, a £20 dedication could help a love one left behind by providing bereavement support and £30 could help towards the comfort of personal care in a patient’s own home.”
