Volunteers of Oldham Foodbank are celebrating after receiving £1,500 to buy in-demand food supplies for those in need in Oldham.
Warrington-based urban logistics property developer Chancerygate and construction contractor Triton Construction made the donation. The two companies are currently working together to deliver the £25m, 110,000 sq ft Broadway Central business park in Chadderton.
The money will enable the volunteers to purchase low-stock items and support those within the community.
Oldham Foodbank is just four miles from the Broadway Central development on Lydia Becker Way. It is Oldham’s only foodbank, opening in 2012 and last year provided more than 8,000 seven-day emergency food supplies for people in crisis.
Organisational development coordinator, Tom Lewis Hood, said: “We are incredibly grateful, as donations like this ensure that we can keep supporting people experiencing crisis in Oldham. This helps us to purchase stock that we are low on, to keep up with the demand. It also helps us to keep up with the rising cost of living for the foodbank.
"The demand across 2022 was 40 per cent higher than in 2021, which has meant that we rely on donations from businesses such as Chancerygate and Triton Construction even more. Thank you for giving back to the local community.”
Chancerygate development director, Mike Walker, said: “Oldham Foodbank is a brilliant local organisation which is invested in ending the need for foodbanks within the UK. It is a pleasure to support them on tackling food poverty and ending hunger in their local community.”
Founded in 1995, Chancerygate is the UK’s largest multi-unit urban logistics developer and asset manager and the only one operating nationwide. In addition to Warrington, Chancerygate has offices in London, Birmingham, Bristol and Milton Keynes.
Triton Construction business development director, Philip Dyer, said: “We are thrilled to be able to extend our reach into the local communities we work within. We are delighted to have been able to work with Chancerygate and Oldham Foodbank to help fund the foodbank and support the local community.”
