Community champions Saddleworth Rotary Club have provided funds and tools to help a green-fingered volunteer group grow.
Incredible Edible Saddleworth grow vegetables, herbs and fruit for the community to pick for free at sites around Uppermill, Greenfield, Dobcross and Springhead.
They are constantly looking for opportunities to grow food in convenient local locations, whether in purpose-made containers or on spare land.
Their aim is to encourage people to grow and cook their own food.
They are also keen to engage local communities in this shared project both to assist in the work, start growing their own food or to share in the food grown, and they always need volunteers.
Now Saddleworth Rotary, passionate believers in community engagement, have donated gardening tools to the group, which the club collected as donations towards the project or purchased new.
They promise to continue to take an active interest in the group’s progress and wish them successful growing seasons this year and in years to come.
Ian Brett, Saddleworth Rotary president, said: “This is a great example of a truly community-based project and comes at a very relevant time as food price increases along with the cost of other essentials are making life really difficult for many people.
"We wish Incredible Edible Saddleworth every success.”
Lydia Thorp, of Incredible Edible Saddleworth, said: “We were delighted to be asked to give a talk to Saddleworth Rotary and are very grateful to receive the gardening tools - they will certainly be put to good use.
“We also hope engaging with other organisations like Rotary locally will help us raise more awareness about growing your own food and reach out to the wider community.”
