The iconic Oldham Coliseum Theatre, which will close its doors for the final time next week
A very special final night at the iconic Oldham Coliseum Theatre is in the offing next week.
Tickets are now available for a special event entitled 'Encore' at the Coliseum, with appearances and performances galore from countless guests on the night the theatre will officially close its doors for the last time next week, Friday, March 31.
A Coliseum statement read: "Spend one last night with us as we celebrate all things Coliseum with script-in-hand performances of scenes and songs from your favourite productions of the past decade, comedy, PANTOMIME, and appearances from some very special guests.
"The Coliseum’s team of expert theatre professionals have crafted this one-night-only event in just two short weeks giving you – our audience – a final opportunity to embrace the Coli and everything it means to Oldham, Greater Manchester and beyond.
"Full line up to be announced."
The theatre initially announced in January that it has been forced to cancel all of its performances from the end of March throughout 2023 and into 2024 after it was revealed last November that the Coliseum would no longer be part of Arts Council England’s National Portfolio from April 1, 2023, meaning a massive funding cut.
Theatre chiefs had been hopeful that, as Oldham is listed as a ‘Levelling Up for Culture’ place, it would retain the support of Arts Council England as a National Portfolio Organisation delivering their Let’s Create strategy.
However, the Coliseum’s application to remain in the Portfolio from 2023-2026 was unsuccessful.
