Schools closed as overnight snow hits Oldham

Overnight snow across Oldham has led to the closure of numerous schools in the borough today (Friday).
A thick coating of snow greeted many Oldhamers this morning, and schools have acted swiftly to communicate the news of closures.

"We can confirm that New Bridge School, New Bridge College and New Bridge Learning Centre are closed today due to adverse weather conditions," said a message from that school.
Meanwhile, looking a little further afield, Oldham mountain rescue team have been out all night assisting drivers stuck in the snow.
Many of the routes over high ground / over the Pennines have deep drifting and are not passable.
The A604 is blocked and closed.
The ‘Isle of Sky’ road / Holmfirth Road is blocked and closed.
Please do not attempt to go over these roads and / or go around road closed signs.
Rail passengers are being advised to check before they travel during heavy snowfall in parts across the North West.
This could impact rail travel on some rural routes in the Peak District, across the Pennines between Manchester and Leeds and in Cumbria.
A yellow weather warning for snow remains valid through until 6pm today (Friday).
