Roary's Pride is back for 2023!
Date published: 06 March 2023
Roary’s Pride was started in 2019, and was a big success with regular meet-ups
Roary’s Pride, Oldham Roughyeds' supporters’ club for under-16s, is back for 2023 after an absence due to covid.
Applications to become a member were handed out on the turnstiles at the home game against London Skolars yesterday (Sunday) by club photographer, and organiser of Roary’s Pride, David Murgatroyd.
Membership costs £10 and everybody who signs up will receive a brilliant new Roary’s Pride scarf as well as other goodies.
The supporters club is supported by Rugby Oldham Supporters Trust, who have covered the costs of the scarves.
Roary’s Pride was started in 2019 and was a big success with regular meet-ups which included visits from the emergency services with youngsters also learning about first aid, giving them essential skills.
This year, after the lifting of covid restrictions, the meet-ups are back with a tour around Oldham Civic Centre and the Council Chambers planned where youngsters will learn more about the history of the town.
The tour is planned to be either before or after the upcoming elections, with a date yet to be confirmed.
Mascot Roary is currently away seeing family in the Serengeti, but will be back to receive the Pride application forms for the Rochdale game on Good Friday, April 7.
Everybody who returns their application form with the membership fee at the Rochdale match will receive their scarf and goodies.
Said David: “One of the reasons I started Roary’s Pride is because I want youngsters to be proud of the team and proud of the town, but most of all to have pride in themselves.
“We’ve had the fire brigade and the police around and a first aid session in the past, so it isn’t just about rugby - it is about giving life skills as well.
“We’re now able to do more sessions with the lifting of the covid restrictions starting with the tour of Oldham Civic Centre.”
