Oldhamers and Saddleworth villagers have been praised for their warm-hearted support for a bumper double-headed charity appeal.
Charity champions Saddleworth Round Table spearheaded a dedicated food and clothing initiative for the community’s most needy on Saturday.
Scores of folk arrived at their Greenfield delivery point with mammoth amounts of non-perishable food/drink/milk for Oldham Foodbank.
And more than 40 huge bags of warm winter clothes were collected on behalf of Sally Maher’s “community wardrobe” to help needy families stay warm this winter.
Speaking on behalf of Saddleworth Round Table, Andrew Rothwell said: “We want to express our sincere gratitude to the people of Oldham and Saddleworth supporting the first foodbank drop of 2023.
“The haul of supplies is still being counted, thousands of items have been donated and they are now with Oldham Foodbank.
“In a twist to usual foodbank drops, Saddleworth Round Table have partnered with Sally Maher representing ‘our community wardrobe.’
“People came in droves to drop off more than 40 bags of adult and children’s coats, warm clothing, fleecy pyjamas, dressing gowns and blankets.
“The clothes are being washed and sorted ready for re-distribution this week.”
Sally, who heads up Oldham School Gift Winter Warm Family Appeal, said: “I'm absolutely overwhelmed by the kindness of the community.
“I would also like to thank Saddleworth Round Table for putting on this collection and donating £750 to our cause.
"It can help so many families with all donations I have received.”
Mr Rothwell added: “Our community needs highly motived people like Sally with kindness at the centre of everything she does.
"We at Round Table exist to support worthy causes such as Sally’s and the Foodbank.
“Between Round Table and the 41 Club who support us, this kind of thing wouldn’t be possible."
