Self-confessed 'Northern Monkey' Al Nield can't wait to return to what he does best as part of the new Mom's Spaghetti radio station line-up.

Relaunched today, Shaw born-and-bred prostate cancer survivor Al will host the Mom's Spaghetti mid-morning show, between 9 and 11am every weekday, Monday to Friday.

He will follow Graeme Park's returning breakfast show, which goes ahead between 7 and 9am each day.

Al, who was formerly known as 'Big Al', has decades of radio presenting experience behind him, and many from Oldham will remember his hugely popular stints on the Revolution 96.2 airwaves between 1999 and its sale to Hits Radio in 2020.

"I'm going to be playing some of the best feel-good music ever - hip-hop, house and happiness," Al said enthusiastically.

"That sums it up really, it is all about the music.

"It's not necessarily going to be all about me, more the music itself.

"We might talk about the origins of the music from time to time, but it is going to be easy listening.

"The last few years have been interesting for everybody, and for me personally, health-wise, it's been a journey.

"I've had cancer, so it's going to be nice to get back to what I know and love.

"I'll be speaking to the people that matter, the people of Manchester and especially Oldham.

"I'm excited. It's going to be like a breath of fresh air for me and the listeners."

Al is relishing the prospect of teaming up with Credible Media Group boss and owner Matt Ramsbottom again.

The two worked extensively together when Revolution 96.2 was still under the Credible umbrella.

All added: "I've known Matt a long time, his heart is in radio and media.

"He's surrounded by great people at Credible, and I'll be working again in the studios that I'm very familiar with.

"On top of that, I'll be getting to talk to the best people in the country.

"They don't call me 'Northern Monkey' for nothing, and I'm going to be talking to the salt of the earth people, day in, day out, throughout Oldham and across Manchester, down to Stockport, Tameside, Bury and all over.

"It's going to be fabulous, and because we're on DAB (digital audio broadcasting) networks, we'll be on crystal clear quality.

"If you're online, you've got it all over the world, too. You can go away on holiday, and take Mon's Spaghetti with you."

Family man Al has always kept himself busy over the years and he shouldn't be short of chat during his morning shows.

During his working career he's been a long-time retail manager at the likes of Screwfix and PC World, an event host, a musician, a drone pilot and he's also the stadium announcer at the Sale Sharks rugby club.

Mom's Spaghetti will play the very best hip-hop, house and 'happiness' tunes throughout the day and evening.

The station will showcase the best quality retro and current tunes from each of the above genres.
