A Chronicle reader from London has come across a spectacular gold medallion from almost a century ago, and is hoping to shed some further light on its Oldham origins.
When sorting out his late father's effects, Bernie French, from Enfield, discovered a solid gold medallion marked 'O.& D.S.S.A.A.F.L. Challenge Cup Winners 1928.29'.
Bernie said: "After many searches and contacts over the past year, and searching many false claims and offers, I found the medallion was originated and was presented by the Oldham and District Sunday Schools Association amteur Football League.
"After further searches, there seems to be no history of this league, but due to this being a solid gold medallion, it must have been a very important match to win in the 1920s.
"I would be really interested in hearing about the history of such a win, and what two Oldham schools played in the game."
Maybe you've got an elderly relative who can help Bernie, or some back information on the origins of the medallion.
If so, Bernie can be mailed at: bernardfrench777@gmail.com
