Traffic congestion around the Lees Road area in Oldham is set to continue for 'up to four weeks'.

United Utilities issued an update this afternoon (Friday), and have apologised for the continued disruption, which is causing plenty of headaches for commuters.

The United Utilities update read: "Work to repair the damaged sewer and water main on Lees Road in Oldham has been making good progress.

"United Utilities has repaired the water main and teams are currently preparing the area to begin repairs on the sewer.

"Specialist equipment is being installed so that engineers can work safely within the excavation of the 4.5 metre deep sewer.

"Due to the scale of the repairs, United Utilities expects that it will need to work within the road closure for up to four weeks.

"Access is being maintained for the fire station and the petrol garage near the junction with Cross Street.

"Diversions are signposted in the area."

A United Utilities spokesperson added:  “We are very sorry for any inconvenience and we are working closely with Oldham Council Highways to keep this to a minimum as far as possible.

"We thank drivers for their patience in the meantime.”
