The Hathershaw College has secured a ‘National School Attendance Award’.
The award from the school data charity, the Fischer Family Trust, is for Hathershaw’s attendance in the autumn term since their return to school after the summer holidays in September through to finishing for Christmas in December.
The award places the school in the top 25% of schools nationally for their attendance.
Mark Giles, Hathershaw’s Principal, said “The pandemic has reduced some children’s levels of resilience which nationally is having an adverse impact on their attendance.
"We have used this year as an opportunity to reset our expectations of attendance, the impact of which is reflected in this award.
"We have an attendance team who work exceptionally hard, but what has also made the difference is insisting on improving attendance being the responsibility of every member of staff.
"The challenge I am now setting is to be in the top 10% of schools for the spring term.”
